Portfolio Manager & Director of Real Estate Investments
Mr. Tenzer is a founding member of Contrarian and the Portfolio Manager of the firm’s real estate fund series. Since Contrarian’s formation in 1995, Mr. Tenzer has been responsible for sourcing, managing, and coordinating the disposition of the Firm’s real estate investments, as well as taking an active role in Contrarian’s corporate investments. Mr. Tenzer has chaired and served on several creditor and unofficial bondholder committees. Prior to co-founding Contrarian, from 1993 to 1995, Mr. Tenzer served as Co-Head of the High-Yield Real Estate Group at Oppenheimer & Co. (“Oppenheimer”), as well as a Senior Analyst at the firm. Prior to Oppenheimer, Mr. Tenzer work at Arthur G. Cohen and was responsible for the analysis, financing, acquisition, disposition, restructuring, and asset management of a nationwide portfolio of investments in the real estate, lodging, restaurant, aviation, and manufacturing industries. Mr. Tenzer received his MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business and a BS in Business Administration cum laude from Georgetown University.
Co-Portfolio Manager (Real Estate)
Mr. Rowland joined Contrarian in 2003 and is Co-Portfolio Manager of the firm’s real estate fund series. In his role at Contrarian, Mr. Rowland serves on the Board of Directors of Cascade Timberlands, LLC. Prior to joining Contrarian in 2003, Mr. Rowland was an Associate at JP Morgan Partners, the Bank’s internal Private Equity Group. At JP Morgan, Mr. Rowland was responsible for domestic corporate and asset-level principal investments in the real estate sector. Before JP Morgan, Mr. Rowland worked at Vornado Realty Trust from 1998 to 2000, where he had responsibilities in acquisitions, development and capital markets. Prior to Vornado, Mr. Rowland was an Associate in the Real Estate Investment Banking Group at Lazard Freres & Co. from 1994 to 1998. Mr. Rowland received a BS in Economics from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1994.
Mr. Halperin joined Contrarian in 2004 and is a Senior Vice President and a Real Estate Research Analyst. He is responsible for acquisitions and asset management of Fund II investments. Prior to joining Contrarian in 2004, Mr. Halperin was a Senior Vice President in the real estate group at Oaktree Capital Management, LLC. Mr. Halperin’s responsibilities at Oaktree included acquisition, asset management and the disposition of distressed real estate assets in the United States and Europe. Before Oaktree, from 1992 to 1996, Mr. Halperin was a Senior Investment Analyst and Asset Manager in the real estate division of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, where he was responsible for repositioning and asset management of troubled assets located in California, Arizona and Colorado. From 1991 to 1992, Mr. Halperin was an Account Officer with Citibank Real Estate, Inc. Mr. Halperin received a Master of Business Administration degree from the Yale School of Management and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Los Angeles. Mr. Halperin is an active member of the Urban Land Institute.
Mr. Herold joined Contrarian in 2006 and is a Vice President at Contrarian Capital Management, L.L.C. and a Real Estate Research Analyst. He is responsible for acquisitions and asset management of Fund II investments. Prior to joining Contrarian, Mr. Herold was with Highland Capital Management, analyzing credits in the real estate and homebuilding industries. Mr. Herold’s work experience also includes a term as an Associate, from 2000 to 2003, at Blackacre Capital, the real estate arm of Cerberus Partners. At Blackacre, he evaluated various distressed real estate investment opportunities in the United States. Prior to Blackacre, from 1999 to 2000, Mr. Herold worked as an Analyst at JP Morgan’s Real Estate Investment Banking group, where he focused on real estate mergers and acquisitions in the United States and Latin America. Prior to JP Morgan, Mr. Herold worked as an Assistant Project Manager/Investment Analyst at Hines from 1997 to 1999, where he focused on office acquisitions on behalf of the National Office Partners joint venture between the California Public Employees’ Retirement System and Hines. Mr. Herold received his MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Vanderbilt University.
Mr. Caldero joined Contrarian in 2011 and is a Senior Vice President at Contrarian Capital Management, L.L.C. and a Real Estate Research Analyst. He is responsible for acquisitions and asset management of Fund II investments. Prior to joining Contrarian in 2011, Mr. Caldero was a Director at Barclays Capital where his responsibilities included asset management and disposition of their United States real estate portfolio. From 2002-2010, he was a Vice President with LNR Property Corporation where he focused on the acquisition of b-notes, mezzanine loans and CMBS investments. From 1997-1999, he was a Vice President with Heitman Financial where he originated and managed debt and preferred equity investments on behalf of the firm’s real estate portfolio. From 1996-1997, he was an Analyst with Prudential where he was the lead analyst responsible for the disposition of their western United States real estate holdings. Mr. Caldero received his Master of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of San Diego.
Ms. Glen joined Contrarian in 2015 and is Director of Real Estate Asset Management. Previously she held various Vice President and Assistant Vice President roles at commercial real estate development, private equity and financial firms involving investment-grade debt and equity assets and portfolios of all property types across the U.S. Ms. Glen’s responsibilities involved investor relations, valuation, asset and fund management, financial underwriting, due diligence and market research. Prior to joining Contrarian, Ms. Glen’s real estate career included working for TriLyn, LLC (2004-2008), The Praedium Group, LLC (2002-2004), Tuckerman Group/State Street Global Advisors (1999-2002), Starwood-Ceruzzi, LLC (1998-1999) and Chase Manhattan Bank, N.A. (1985-1994). Ms. Glen received her BS in Business Administration from the University of Connecticut in 1985.
